The robbery which took place in the upmarket Ginza area of Tokyo on June 14th 2007 sees the defendant and another member of the same gang facing charges after they reportedly sprayed tear gas into the eyes of store assistants before stealing jewellery and fleeing on bicycles.

His arrest came as part of several big blows to the Pink Panther gang who at one time seemed to be a fairly uncatchable gang mainly originating from Yugoslavia. The gang stole jewellery and watches over a long period of time.

The criminal gang is thought to have stolen jewellery worth hundreds of millions of pounds in over thirty countries stretching as far back as ten years ago.

The gang is also thought to have stolen some very valuable gems from a different Ginza jewellery store in 2004.

Mr Hadziahmetovic who is known to be in his forties was finally arrested in Cyprus in 2009 after a warrant for his arrest was issued due to his stealing of valuable watched in Spain- which is where he was sent. His extradition was then sought by Japan.

Another suspect called Radovan Jelusic has also been arrested. He was discovered in May attempting to use a fake Croatian passport. He was wanted in Japan, Cyprus and a whole host of other countries.

The gang known as the ‘Pink Panther’ gang were given their nickname after British police found a diamond ring stashed by them in a jar of face cream just like in the 1963 comedy film.
